Queen of California is the second single from John Mayer’s fifth studio album ‘Born and Raised’.

Compared to some of Mayer’s early songs, such as Neon, it is considerably easier to play. Having said that, you may still find it takes a while to get into the groove of Queen of California as it’s certainly no walk in the park.

For me, to be able to play this song well, you have to master two things – the time and the feel. Once you’ve got the techniques down, set the click at around 84bpm and really work hard on getting all the parts ‘in the pocket’.

Lesson 1

In this lesson we look at how to play the main riff of Queen of California. It’s a little tricky at first but with a bit of work it becomes very comfortable and incredibly enjoyable to play. I could play it all day long.
