What guitar do you use?
What guitar should I buy to play fingerstyle?
You can buy any guitar that you want! You can play fingerstyle on any guitar - there are no rules!
I really can't suggest a guitar that's specifically right for you. The best advice I can give is that you need to go out to the shops and try as many as you can until you find the one that feels right to you. Generally though, go for the best guitar you can afford.
Some solid brands are Yamaha, Faith, Taylor, Martin and Takamine. There are of course many others that are equally as good.
What strings do you use?
I generally use D'Addario or Martin 12-54. However, any strings work fine for playing fingerstyle. Again, try loads and choose your favourite.
I have a song request - can you teach [song name]?
Thank you for thinking of a song you'd like a lesson on. Unfortunately, I'm now getting many requests each day and I simply can't keep up with demand so have had to stop taking requests.
Do your courses include the song lessons?
All song lessons are taught for free on sixstringfingerpicking.com and tabs are available through musicnotes.com.
The courses focus on the techniques and skills of playing fingerstyle and do not include any song lessons.
Why don't you accept PayPal?
Currently, the platform that hosts the Academy uses Stripe, which is a secure and well-used online payment platform. PayPal will certainly be added in the future, but unfortunately we don't have a timescale for this.
I've locked myself out of my Academy account, can you help?
In the first instance, please try the Forgot Password? link on the Sign In page.
If you don't receive the email or are still struggling to log in, please get in touch and state that you have tried this step first.
Do the courses include the tabs for the songs you teach?
Due to copyright, the paid-for courses do not include tabs for any songs or get you access to the song tabs elsewhere. If you'd like to buy the tab for one of the songs then the link to do so is on the song lesson page.
Why do I have to pay for tabs?
Tabs are sold through Musicnotes so that the royalties are paid to the rights holders. It's illegal to freely provide music that's still within copyright. Musicnotes also check all tabs to ensure that they are 100% accurate. You will often find that tabs provided for free (illegally) also have errors.
Can I buy tabs in bulk?
Tabs are sold separately and there is no bulk discount. However, subscribers to the Six String Fingerpicking mailing list enjoy 25% off tabs, with a new code given every month. There is no obligation to buy anything and you can unsubscribe at any time. If you want to sign up you can do so here.
Where is the tab for [song name]?
All tabs are available through Musicnotes here. If the tab isn't available yet then it will be soon so please keep checking back.
